Paradise Circus

The next Brumbloggers will be on Tuesday 13^th July, meeting at The Flapper & Firkin (Kingston Row, City Centre) from 6pm until we all fall over or into the canal. To mix things up a bit, serial lunatic Danny Smith will be running the second Art is Easy evening to coincide with the meetup, so you are presented with the tantalising choice of drink and banter, or drink, draw and banter. I’ll let Danny explain what exactly Art is Easy is:

“I try and show everyone that drawing is a skill that can be taught. We drink, the better amongst us help the ones less able, we draw, we laugh, and I try not to stab anyone with my lovely sharp stabby stabby mechanical pencil.”

Fair enough. Fear not, I’ll be there to supervise him. Or restrain him.

We’ve had a show of interest already for this, so for those who have expressed an interest, please show your face and bring a pencil (HB or 2B), a hardback sketchbook (not essential but you will find it easier) and an eraser. If you haven’t already expressed an interest, this is not a problem – if you fancy a go at this just bring some kit with you on the evening. We’ll kick the drawing bit off from about 7.30ish. Prepare for an odd or disturbing still life composition to draw because, let’s face it, this is Danny we’re talking about after all.

If you’d rather poke your eyes out with blunt spoons than draw, that’s absolutely fine because, as with all the blogmeets, you can just tuck into a selection of exquisitely boozy liquids you’ll be able to purchase if you talk nicely to the bar staff.

Come to the pub on Tuesday 14th April, come anytime from 6pm and leave whenever you want to, or when the landlord kindly asks you to.

As you hopefully have heard, the Birmingham Bloggers’ meets are now taking place in the second week of the month, in order better intersect with the Birmingham Social Media Cafe now taking place on the last Friday of the month.

This means the next one is this Monday !

There’ve been a few requests to have the occasional meeting not in a pub, just to have a change of atmos – but annoyingly non-pub venues that are open on weekday evenings are a bit thin on the ground round here ! As the person with the keys to the safe this month, I’ve picked The Green Room, opposite the Hippodrome (Hurst Street); it’s more of a cafe bar than a pub, so hopefully will go some of the way to attract anybody who’s so far not come because of not liking meeting in pubs.

The usual plan applies – people start to turn up from around 6ish, but come whenever you’re ready, & leave when you feel the time is right.

Since we’ve always tried to keep the bloggers group fast moving and democratic, we never decide anything untill the last moment. That led to the meets gravitating to the end of the month – as no-one got round to oranising them.

Since the lovely, but sort of overlapping, Birmingham Social Media Cafe is meeting regularily in the last week of the month I think we should go for the second week. This is also good to not get all muddled in December and Jan.

So, in an unexpected rash of planning ahead I think we should set dates in advance and I’m proposing a rolling Mon-Thurs thing second week in the month.

Which would make November’s meet Monday 10th November and December’s  Tuesday 9th.

Maybe we should fix venues too? Any thoughts?
