July Social Media Surgery – 15th July 2009

Having sprouted a local surgery in Acocks Green (and the idea spreading even further to Brighton), the original Birmingham Social Media Surgery returns to Fazeley Studios for another session of free help and advice for Birmingham based voluntary and community organisations wanting practical help with getting their heads around social media.
Attiye Faraji and Gavin Wray at the Birmingham Social Media Surgery

When & Where

Next Surgery: Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 drop in anytime between 5.30pm to 7.00pm at Fazeley Studios, 191 Fazeley Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 6DR, link to map. (not BVSC) It’s opposite the Bond and a go kart track. Push the large pale blue door with the silver door knob.

To sign up, just head over to the BeVocal website and fill in the form so that we know who to expect. There is also some information about other really local surgeries taking place in Birmingham over the next few weeks

What are they all about?

Volunteers from the Birmingham bloggers group are offering to show voluntary and community groups in the city how you can make best use of social media. It doesn’t matter if you are the head of communications at a major charity or an active citizen in your neighbourhood, if you’re at all curious come along.

More about what goes on at a surgery and how it can help you and your group here.

More about what has gone on over the past nine months and what you can expect at a surgery here.

By the way the surgeries have been nominated (by me I hasten to add!)  for the Digital Press Awards People’s Choice along with brilliant local activity like Rhubarb Radio and the Big City Talk site.

In the mean time, if you want to come along or know someone that could use the free help get them to sign up here so we have an idea of numbers.

June meet-up Thurs 11th at the Flapper & Firkin

No agenda, no fixed time (turn up and leave when you like on “Thursday Evening”, people tend to start arriving from about 6 – those that get there straight after work — but people arrive and leave all night until closing.

We’re not that fussed if you “blog”, or “twitter” or anything, it’s just nice to hang out with people that you don’t have to explain “the Internet’ to once in a while.

Please come along and meet people “off of the web”, bring some money for your drinks — there’s no agenda, no sponsors and nothing except friendly chat.

Time: from 6pm to chucking out time

Date: Thursday 11th June (see here for how we work out when bloggers’ meet-ups are)
